It is a CT Building Trades collaborative apprenticeship readiness program that prepares candidates for the union apprenticeship application process
Any CT resident who:
- Is 18 years or older
- Has a high school diploma or GED
- Is drug free
- Has access to a car
- Is physically able to work in construction
Yes, as long as you will be 18 years old by the first day of class
No, but you must be physically able to do the work... this includes heights, confined spaces and extreme weather conditions
No, this is an unpaid program.
Depending on available funding, supportive services maybe available to candidates upon successful completion of the program. Amounts may vary.
Applicants will learn about all the Building Construction Trades Unions throughout the state.
Applicants will then choose the trade that is the best fit for them.
- OSHA 10
- First Aid/CPR
- Construction Basics
- Basic math for construction
- Financial literacy
These are industry/trade specific and should be considered a refresher or re-certification and a great networking opportunity with apprenticeship instructors.
No, this training program is not a guarantee of an apprenticeship position, but graduates receive priority consideration in the trade of their choice. Graduates are assisted by BTTI case manager staff through this process.
Length of the training varies from 1-10 weeks depending on the specific program. >
Typically, classes run Monday thru Friday from 7am – 3:30pm. Exceptions are the “Women Can Weld” program which is Monday thru Thursday.
No this is a FREE training program
Yes, students will be drug tested
Yes! The building trades are a great career path option for those with criminal backgrounds. We advise applicants that certain felony convictions could limit work on specific projects or we may not be bale to serve all together. For example, someone with a sex related conviction may not be permitted to work on a school renovation, but may be placed on a new construction or roadway project instead.
Yes, applicants will take basic math and reading comprehension assessments. Assessments do not determine eligibility to the program.
Staff will work with program participants to eliminate barriers to employment and/or successful completion of the program.
