About Us

The CT State Building Trades Training Institute (CTSBTTI) was established in 2022 under the oversight of the CT State Building Trades Council.  CTSBTTI provides pre-employment preparation services to Connecticut residents interested in applying or entering unionized registered apprenticeship training programs.  Outreach and recruitment efforts target underserved populations such as young adults between the ages of 18 and 24, females, returning citizens, veterans, and communities of color.

CTSBTTI’s service delivery model consists of outreach/recruitment, assessment, math remediation, case management, construction readiness programs, job search and job placement assistance as well as retention support services.  While participants undergo this process, they are provided case management services by program staff.  Supportive services are provided to all program participants.  They consist of cash stipends that allow them to cover costs associated with their placement into registered apprenticeship programs.  The supportive services consist of stipends, work gear, tools, childcare and transportation support.

The CT State Building Trades Training Institute partners with the Joint Apprenticeship Directors of CT (JATDCC).  The JATDCC was formed in 1963. The membership consists of administrators and/or training coordinators of apprenticeship training programs registered with the State of Connecticut and associate members who have an interest in apprenticeship such as community college administrators, government agencies such as the U.S. Department of Labor, Bureau of Apprenticeship and Training, the Connecticut Department of Education, and persons from other private and public agencies. The purpose of JATDCC is to provide a medium for the exchange of ideas, methods, and information relative to apprenticeship training, journeyman training and other areas of training as required by industry. The association also promotes and educates the community about the value and benefits of a career through apprenticeship which is also a goal of CTSBTTI.

Instructors assigned by the various JATDCC’s are responsible for the delivery of CTSBTTI instructional courses.  Through the courses that are offered, trainees have the opportunity to attain recognized construction industry credentials such as OSHA 10, CPR & First Aid, Elevated Mobile Platforms, Scaffold User/Dismantler, Fire Watch, Silica Awareness and Forklift Safety.  Construction Readiness Programs vary in length depending on the need of the construction projects. Once trainees complete the construction readiness phase, then they are assisted by CTSBTTI staff with the various applications into the registered apprenticeship programs of their choice.

CTSBTTI’s goal is to RECRUIT, TRAIN and RETAIN those we serve in order to develop a qualified pool of applicants to the unionized registered apprenticeship programs.  Once they enter these apprenticeship programs they will be prepared with the proper skills and credentials that are needed to succeed in the construction industry.
